This advanced course highlights the importance of high-performance team dynamics and communication, systems of care, recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, immediate post-cardiac arrest, acute dysrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS). Improves outcomes in complex cardiovascular, respiratory and other (eg, metabolic, toxicologic) emergencies by expanding on core ACLS guidelines and encouraging critical thinking and decision-making strategies. Through instruction and active participation in case-based scenarios, learners enhance their skills in the differential diagnosis and treatment of prearrest, arrest and postarrest patients. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for the health care provider is designed to meet the requirements for employment in health care professions. Students will learn single-rescuer and team basic life support for adults, children and infants they learn how to recognize life-threatening emergencies, provide high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilation and provide early use of an AED. Heartsaver CPR is designed for those people who are NOT working in a healthcare field. The American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED course combines video-mediated and instructor-led training while reinforcing lessons with hands-on exercises. This program is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs an AHA course completion card. You will learn:

• Infant CPR

CPR instruction includes high-quality compressions, airway management, breathing, and how to use a mask.

AMHA 0922 - AHA - Instructor ACLS


Instructor Training for those individuals who want to teach ACLS. This course covers planning and preparation for courses, instructing courses, conducting written exams, skills testing, and keeping your ACLS Instructor status current. It includes general information about instructing AHA courses, followed by course-specific information. IMPORTANT: Prior to taking this course, candidates must have a current course completion AHA ACLS Provider Certification and at least 2 years of provider experience.
AHA ACLS Instructor candidates must complete the following for certification:
-Before attending AHA Faculty-led course, go to (www.onlineaha.org/courses) Purchase and complete ACLS Instructor Essentials appx $30.00. Please bring paper copy of Completion Certificate to class.
-Attend the in-person, skills practice-driven, Faculty-led ACLS Instructor Course.
-Be monitored by faculty teaching their first ACLS course.
-Upon successful completion of all steps, candidates receive an ACLS Instructor card, valid for two years.
Candidates will have to align with an AHA ACLS Training Center that is accepting new ACLS Instructors.
Each Instructor needs to purchase the following books. We will have them the day of class. If you are working with an agency as an Instructor and they already have books that are in their AHA library you may bring those and not purchase any. However, you must have them with you the day of class or you will need to purchase some. If you are not working with an agency or your agency does not have any books you are required to purchase them.

ELEC 101B - Electrical Apprentice 1B


STUDENTS NEW TO DIXIE TECH MUST APPLY IN PERSON AT STUDENT SERVICES
First year, second semester electrical students will continue to gain an understanding of the National Electrical Code and residential requirements. An introductory study of swimming pools, service calculations, and heating and air conditioning calculations will be covered during this course. Also, students will continue their study of electrical theory with parallel and combination circuit calculations. A competency test will be given upon completion of the course.

ELEC 102B - Electrical Apprentice 2B


This course will provide the student with an introductory understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements for grounding and bonding, and motor calculations. A more comprehensive examination of NEC requirements for wiring methods and materials will be provided. Students will learn the functions and uses of DC and AC motors and generators. A competency test will be given upon completion of the course.

ELEC 103B - Electrical Apprentice 3B


This course will consist of basic and complex electrical motor control systems and their fundamental concepts, diagrams, and applications. Students will also gain a comprehensive knowledge of the National Electrical Code requirements for wiring and protecting of motors and motor circuits. A competency test will be given upon completion of the course.

ELEC 104B - Electrical Apprentice 4B


The student will review principals of AC and DC theory, mathematics relating to the study of electricity, National Electrical Code mathematical formulas, motors, motor controllers, transformer calculation, and undertake an intensive study of the National Electrical Code. The intention of the course is to prepare the student for the journeyman qualifying examination. Due to the course content each student can expect 12 hours or more per week of homework type study outside the classroom. At the end of the course the student will demonstrate journeyman level competency by completing a practice test consisting of closed book theory, open book National Electrical Code, and math calculation.

PLUM 101B - Plumbing Apprentice 1B


STUDENTS NEW TO DIXIE TECH MUST APPLY IN PERSON AT STUDENT SERVICES
In this course students will be taught industry mathematic skills including standard weight pipe, allowance for threaded pipe, copper tubing, allowance for copper fittings, plastic pipe, and allowance for plastic fittings, welded steel piping, and allowance for weld-type fittings. Students will also learn equal spacing, angles in plumbing, offset, diagonal and rise or run, solving for 45° angles, 45° diagonal and pipe length, three-pipe diagrams with a 45° offset, right angle with a 45° diagonal, 45° offset with Wye fitting, Wye and Tee-wye assemblies. Students will learn about fixture faucets and fittings with the International Plumbing Code. In addition, students will learn fixture and appliance installation, system maintenance and repair, and water and sewage treatment plants.

PLUM 102B - Plumbing Apprentice 2B


In this class students will learn about storm water and sumps, installing HVAC systems, swimming pools, spas, irrigations systems. They will also learn about repairing DWV systems, water supply systems, remodeling, and job organization. Mathematic concepts will be included covering grade, percent grade, drop and run; elevation and grade; elevation in a plan view pipe diagram, 45° offsets in parallel and rolling offsets. Student will learn water pressure, head and force. And finish with learning about calculation within shapes and partially filled containers.

PLUM 103B - Plumbing Apprentice 3B


In the International Plumbing Code, students will review vents, commercial applications, indirect waste, commercial/industrial waste applications, water supply and distribution, and special piping and storage systems. In addition students will learn general regulations, fixtures, faucets and fixtures for the International Plumbing Code. Special piping and storage systems will also be included. Students will study rectangular solids, cylinders, and spheres in mathematics. Students will also approach hydronic system design and piping.

PLUM 104B - Plumbing Apprentice 4B


As part of the International Mechanical Code, students will learn about boilers, water heaters, and pressure vessels. In the International Fuel and Gas Code, students will learn pipe materials, sizing, gas valves and controls, installation requirements, appliance connections, and supplemental and standby gas supplies. In the International Plumbing Code, students will review all applicable in preparation for the Utah Journeyman license written exam. The study of hydronic systems, including radiant floor heating, distribution and piping systems, expansion tanks, air removal, and auxiliary heating loads will be included as part of the course content. Extensive laboratory work will be spent on projects to simulate the Utah Journeyman license practical exam.
